How to Install Windows 3.11 and DOS 6.22 on VMware
If you want to experience the nostalgia of using an old operating system, or you need to run some legacy software that only works on DOS or Windows 3.11, you can install them on a virtual machine using VMware. VMware is a software that allows you to create and run virtual machines on your computer. In this article, we will show you how to install Windows 3.11 and DOS 6.22 on VMware step by step.
What You Need
Before you start, you will need the following:
A computer with VMware Workstation Pro installed. You can download it from here.
An ISO image of DOS 6.22 and Windows 3.11 installation files. You can download it from here.
A blank floppy disk image. You can create one using a tool like WinImage.
A CD-ROM driver for DOS. You can download one from here.
Step 1: Create a Virtual Machine
First, you need to create a virtual machine for your DOS and Windows 3.11 installation. Follow these steps:

Open VMware Workstation Pro and click on File > New Virtual Machine.
Select Custom (advanced) and click Next.
Select Workstation 16.x and click Next.

Give a name and location for your virtual machine. Click Next.
Select the number of processors and cores you want to assign to your virtual machine. Click Next.

Select Use network address translation (NAT) as the network type. Click Next.
Select Use an existing virtual disk and click Next.
Browse to the location where you downloaded the ISO image of DOS 6.22 and Windows 3.11 installation files and select it as the virtual disk file. Click Next.
Click Finish to create your virtual machine.
Step 2: Install DOS 6.22
Next, you need to install DOS 6.22 on your virtual machine. Follow these steps:
Power on your virtual machine and press F2 to enter the BIOS setup.
Go to Boot > Boot Device Priority and make sure that CD-ROM Drive is the first boot device. Press F10 to save and exit.
Your virtual machine will boot from the ISO image and start the DOS installation process.
Follow the on-screen instructions to install DOS 6.22 on your virtual machine.
When prompted, reboot your virtual machine.
Step 3: Install CD-ROM Driver
After installing DOS 6.22, you need to install a CD-ROM driver for DOS so that you can access the Windows 3.11 installation files from the ISO image. Follow these steps:
Power off your virtual machine and go to Settings > Hardware > Floppy Drive.
Select Use floppy image file and browse to the location where you downloaded or created a blank floppy disk image.
Click OK to save the settings.
Power on your virtual machine and insert the CD-ROM driver diskette into the floppy drive by clicking on VM > Removable Devices > Floppy Drive > Connect (Disconnect from Host).
Type A: at the command prompt and press Enter to switch to the floppy drive.
